Elizabeth Forbes was a Canadian painter, primarily active in Newlyn, Cornwall until her death in 1912. Children were often the focus of her paintings and School Is Out is one of her most popular works. Whistler is said to have influenced her etchings in particular.
After studying and working in Europe, Forbes moved to Newlyn, working on raising her son and starting the Newlyn School of Arts with her husband, Stanhope Forbes. Elizabeth Forbes' award-winning work has been in many notable shows in Canada, England and USA.
