Dame Laura Knight was one of the most famous female British artists. Orphaned in her late teens, her and her sister had to fend for themselves early on. Later, she and her husband would become Royal Academicians. At one time during her 67 years exhibiting at the Royal Academy, she had as many as 284 works plus another 176 at another exhibition, 400 at Leicester Galleries and 190 works over 40 years at the Royal Watercolour society. Works are now seen in many public galleries around the UK
