In 1990, the Mechanical Music Factory Manufaktur (MMM) was founded by the brothers Jens and Jörg Wendel in the Rotweinort Rüdesheim-Assmannshausen. Based on the needs of the family-owned museum "Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet" (First German Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments), they initially specialized in the reproduction and restoration of orchestras and set up appropriate workshops. In the course of the first year, it was possible to produce mechanical songbirds and pipers with the original tools and devices of the "Karl Griesbaum KG" from Triberg in the Black Forest. This small fabrication was supplemented a few years later by the production of music sheet plays.
In 1993, the first store specializing in music boxes was opened in the tourist metropolis of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Since the selection of music boxes in the European market was very limited, the first imports from the Far East were organized. The quantities, which had to be removed in the Far East from the individual articles, far exceeded the sales opportunities of Rüdesheim retail store and also the development of a wholesale for music boxes in Germany was not enough for this - so the distribution was very early, before the introduction of the euro, extended to the whole of Europe.
Today, MMM GmbH ('Spieluhrenwelt' or 'Musicboxworld') is the world market leader for the distribution of music boxes with subsidiaries in the USA and Italy as well as customers all over the world, as well as currently the only manufacturer of toy watch movements in the EU.
